An ingot is a piece of cast metal obtained from a mould in a form suitable for storage, transporting, and further use.
Their form are truncated pyramids (flat parallel top and bottom, sloped sides). This shape allows the ingot to be easily removed from its mold, when cast.
Metals have been cast into shapes of known characteristics for as long as metallurgy has existed. From the ancient Chinese sycee to the gold, silver and lead ingots of the Roman Empire, the ingot was an accepted method of presenting valuable metals for storage and transportation.
The practice of casting metals into standardized forms continues to today with the large majority of metal products starting life as ingots.
The design of Ingot cutlery keeps soiled parts away from the tablecloth (no need to use a cutlery holder).
The upside down design means that the parts of the fork, knife and spoon that normally stain the
tablecloth do not rest on it.
